Oats are a type of grain from the Poaceae grass family of plants. This grain specifically is the edible seeds of oat grass which in turn is now a daily staple in most people breakfast bowls. The “Food and Drug Administration allows the use of a health claim on food labels associating a reduced risk of coronary heart disease with the consumption of beta-glucan soluble fiber from whole grain oats. “[1]

Not only do oats contain many health benefits and sources of nutrients like:

Fiber (insoluble and soluble)

Oats also are just a great staple for any dish. They dont even have to be breakfast or a sweet meal. Savoury oats is such a satiating and delicious meal. So no, oats art just another trend, and in my opinion something you should give a go.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/3 cup oats of choice ( I use quick oats for convenience)

  • 1 tbsp chia seeds

  • 1 tbsp goji berries

  • 1 tbsp coconut flakes

  • 1 tsp honey or maple syrup

  • Pink of salt

  • 1-2 scoops protein powder ( I use kissed earth)

  • ½ cup milk of choice (almond is my favourite)

  • ½ cup fruit (berries are my go too)

  • 2 tbsp Greek yogurt

method

  1. Combine oats, salt, chia seeds & protein powder in bowl

  2. Add in wet ingredients, honey or maple & milk

  3. Combine well and transfer to jar

  4. Layer yogurt on top of mixture

  5. Top with berries

  6. Sprinkle goji and coconut flakes

  7. Add extra maple or honey if you have a sweet tooth too
